An Easter Message

Bob’s Annual Easter Message (warning, this one is not much of an improvement over last year's)

The attached picture is entitled "Head of Christ" and was painted by Bob Boldt Easter this year happens to fall on the anniversary of the execution of Martin Luther King Jr. by the government of the United States.

The connection today could not be more poignant or relevant. I hope all of you viewed the shocking documentary by Tavis Smiley, “MLK A Call to Conscience” on PBS.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was the voice of prophecy and justice and Barack Obama is the smiling face of the same military Empire that killed King 42 years ago and would do the same were he to come back to us today—with even more of a swift sure vengeance than in 1968. "Barack Obama presently is the brilliant, charismatic, smiling, friendly face of the American Empire.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was the courageous, sacrificial, smiling, friendly face that was crushed by the American Empire." --Cornell West

In 1999 the King family won a wrongful death suit in which the jury found that Loyd Jowers and other governmental parities were responsible for the King assassination.

Soldiers (not Jews) drove the nails into Christ’s body. Soldiers (the military) were involved in the killing of both Kennedy and King. In 1948 Nikos Kazantzakis published "Christ Recrucified" in which he said that one who imitates Christ can expect the same fate today as of old.

I am convinced that were Christ and King to return to earth, our Commander in Chief would be first in line with hammer and nails and sturdy crosses on which to hang them. Not because he wants to, but because he knows the role the military expects him to play on the world stage and because of his respect for the powers that have always trumped justice in this benighted country.

Obama does not need any more object example beyond that of the Kennedy assassination to know that his promise of change was dead on arrival the day he assumed office. I know three things: Justice will never triumph for long over the powers of this world. We must continuously struggle for justice even though we know it is impossible to achieve.

Those who hold and wield power will always ultimately fall as a result of their own corruption and abuses. “What is needed is not shrewdness or craft, but what the politicians don’t have: depth, humanity and a certain totality of self forgetfulness and compassion—not just for individuals but for humanity as a whole—a deeper kind of dedication. Maybe Kennedy will break through into that someday by miracle. But such people are before long marked out for assassination.”

Thomas Merton

Those who still believe in Obama’s promise of change and pray for a miracle, must also realize that, should their prayers be answered, the result would be the death of yet a third great American president.

Peace, Bob Boldt
